Greetings, Nephalem. While we are busy slaughtering demons across Sanctuary, it’s time to take a brief pause to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Blizzard has just officially announced the return of the Lunar Awakening event.
The event runs from February 13 to February 27. If you think this is just a cosmetic grab, you might be missing out on the best leveling window of the entire season.
Let's break down the patch notes, the new shrine mechanics, and why you should absolutely be logging in next week.
The Juice: 100% XP Boost
The headline feature is massive: Activating a Lunar Shrine grants a 100% Experience Bonus (multiplicative) and 30% increased Movement Speed.
For players deep into the endgame, this is nice, but for Alt Characters, this is god-tier. If you've been wanting to try the newly buffed classes but dreaded the grind to Level 60, this is your time.
Pro Strat: Don't just roam the open world. Hoard your Nightmare Dungeon Sigils that have the "Extra Shrines" affix. Pop a shrine, clear the elite packs, and watch your XP bar fly.
Shrine Upgrades: More Than Just Stats
Blizzard has juiced up the standard shrines with "Lunar" variants that add crazy effects. Here are the standouts:
- Greed Shrine: This is the money maker. It has a chance to summon a Treasure Goblin immediately, and kills while active can spawn more goblins. Great for farming boss mats.
- Lethal Shrine: Grants a chance to instantly execute non-boss monsters (including Elites). This is a lifesaver for high-tier pushing.
- Protection Shrine: Reflects all incoming damage. Watching Corpse Bows one-shot themselves never gets old.
Note: The event hub is located at the Lunar Night Market in Ked Bardu. Make sure to head there first to start your Ancestors' Favor progression!
The Loot: Free Mythic Crafting Material
The Ancestors' Favor reputation system returns with 10 tiers of rewards.
- The Mount: We are getting the Trag'Oul's Companion mount. As a Necromancer main, having a mount themed after the Great Dragon Trag'Oul is a must-have.
- The Big Prize: Reaching the max reputation tier rewards a Resplendent Spark.
Do not skip this event. A free Resplendent Spark is huge. It puts you one step closer to crafting your Harlequin Crest (Shako) or Grandfather. Even if you hate events, grind the rep just for this.
Action Plan: What To Do Now
The event starts on Feb 13. Here is your checklist:
- Save Sigils: Stop salvaging NMD keys with the "Extra Shrines" affix. Keep them for next week.
- Prep your Alt: Create your new character now, get them to World Tier 3/4, and park them in Ked Bardu.
- Group Up: Shrines are shared. Running with a group ensures 100% uptime on the Lunar buffs.
