God Ash Strikes Again! Plus: Dragon Sails & The Rev Cave Rework

Game Jam VII Breakdown: Spaghetti Code Fixes, Rev Caves & "Boat FashionScape"

Feb 11, 2026 The OSRS Analyst Game Jam Sailing PvP

Greetings, Scapers!

Jagex just dropped the dev blog for their seventh Game Jam. For the uninitiated, Game Jams are periods where J-Mods are free to work on passion projects. While nothing is guaranteed to make it into the game, many of our favorite updates (like Forestry or Quest Speedrunning) started here.

This time around, the pitch count is smaller but the impact is massive. We're seeing deep dives into engine work (yes, God Ash is at it again), major Wilderness proposals, and some very shiny Sailing cosmetics.

Here is a breakdown of the key pitches and what the community is saying.

1. Sailing: "Boat FashionScape"

The Sailing skill isn't even out yet, but the team (Mod Hend, Lenny, Grub, Ori) is already tackling the most important endgame: FashionScape.

  1. Sail Patterns: Basic color sails (Black, Blue, Red, etc.).
  2. Dragon Sails: These look absolutely incredible. Likely crafted from Dragon items?
  3. Metal Trims: Customize your hull with Bronze through Dragon tier trims.
Analyst's Take

This isn't just cosmetic; it's a potential Item Sink. If crafting Dragon Trims requires sacrificing Dragon Chainbodies or Platebodies, this could help stabilize the prices of mid-tier unique items. The community has been asking for this kind of customization, and it seems Jagex is listening.

2. Interface & UX Revolution

Several J-Mods focused on modernizing the UI, making the game feel less like a 2007 relic without losing its charm.

Combat Achievements (CAs) Interface

Direct display of Personal Bests (PB) and Kill Counts (KC) in the interface. This makes the grind feel much more rewarding and trackable.

Teleport Map (Mod Necro)

Instead of memorizing which jewelry teleports where, imagine a world map showing every available teleport (Spellbooks, Jewelry, Fairy Rings, etc.). While purists might argue it's "too convenient", for newer players or those returning after a break, this is a godsend.

"Will It Slide?" (Audio Engine)

Did you know the OSRS volume slider was actually 21 buttons faking a slider? Mod Ed rewrote the code to make it a true slider! Plus, Custom Playlists with true shuffle are finally coming.

3. God Ash's Deep Dive

Developer: Mod Ash

Mod Ash proves once again why he is the backbone of OSRS. He spent the Game Jam refactoring thousands of lines of legacy "spaghetti code."

  1. Skill Guides: Previously hard-coded text, now a searchable database. The game can now automatically highlight if you meet requirements.
  2. Level-Up Messages: Messages now persist in a side panel. No more missing what you unlocked because you clicked away too fast during combat.

4. Immersion: Multi-Level Visibility

Developer: Mod BigRig

Currently in OSRS, if you are on the 2nd floor, the ground floor is a black void. This update allows you to see players, NPCs, and scenery on different height levels. It makes the world feel much less "flat" and more alive.

Note: This would be disabled in PvP areas to prevent unfair advantages.

5. Wilderness Rework: Rev Caves 2.0

Developer: Mod Manked

This is the most controversial and hardcore proposal. The current Rev Caves are profitable but plagued by bots.

  1. Split Caves: Main cave split into Singles+ and Multi zones.
  2. New Low-Level Cave: A safer cave in Level 18-21 Wilderness for beginners.
  3. Anti-Bot Tax: Entry fee scales with Diary completion. 500k GP fee if you have no Wilderness Diary (a direct tax on suicide bots).
  4. Ironman Loot: Ironmen can now receive loot if they deal the most damage.
Community Verdict

Pros: The 500k fee is a massive deterrent for bot farms. The low-level cave is great for pures.
Cons: Some fear that "Protection Clans" might return to lock down the new Multi zones. However, Mod Manked argues that the new mechanics make protection rackets less viable.

Summary

This Game Jam might lack a flashy new Raid, but it shows Jagex's commitment to the long-term health of the game. Whether it's Mod Ash cleaning up code from 2004 or the art team making our boats look fabulous, the devs are building a foundation for the next 10 years.

Which feature do you want most? Are you excited for the true volume slider? Or are you ready to risk it all in the new Multi Rev Caves?
