PoE 2 Boss Guide: Azarian The Forsaken Son Strategy & Drops
Azarian, The Forsaken Son is a towering, multi-armed boss encountered in the Buried Shrines beneath the ruins of Keth in Act 2 of Path of Exile 2. He serves as the guardian of the Water Goddess's tomb. This fight is a high-stakes battle of positioning, where destroying the environment punishes the player with permanent area denial. Defeating him is required to obtain the Essence of Water for the Horn of Orbala quest.
Lore & Background
In the golden age of Keth, Azarian was a high priest entrusted with the sacred duty of tending the eternal fires of the Water Goddess's shrine—a paradox of elements meant to symbolize balance. However, when the city fell to the sands and corruption, Azarian was left behind, forgotten by his gods and his people.
Over centuries of isolation, his devotion turned to madness. He embraced the fire he once tended, fusing the sacred braziers into his own flesh and weaponry. Now, he burns with an undying rage, destroying anyone who dares to enter the sanctuary he believes he still protects.
Core Mechanics
Azarian deals extreme Fire Damage and Physical Damage. The arena is a square room with four large Braziers in the corners. The fight revolves around protecting these braziers to keep the floor safe.
The Braziers (Environmental Hazard)
-
Mechanic: Scorched Earth
Description: There is a massive Brazier in each of the four corners of the arena. If a Brazier is destroyed (by Azarian's attacks or YOUR attacks), it explodes and covers that entire quadrant of the room in permanent fire.
Strategy: Fight in the center. Do not lure Azarian to the corners. If you destroy all four braziers, you will have almost no safe ground to stand on, making the fight nearly impossible.
Phase 1: The Burning Flails
-
1. Blazing Whirlwind
Description: Azarian raises the burning flail and starts rotating it quickly while charging straight forward. This is a multi-segment判定 movement AOE. Usually, a Scythe Uppercut follows at the end of the charge.
Strategy: His movement path is a straight line. When he starts to rotate, roll towards his side. -
2. Flame Cone
Description: Raise both arms and smash them downward onto the ground with force. Release two fan-shaped flames forward.
Strategy: He will turn slightly towards the player when releasing. Don't rush to roll; dodge at the moment his hand falls. -
3. Fireball Volley
Description: If the player is too far away, he will throw a burning projectile.
Strategy: These fireballs are easy to accidentally hit the corner firepits. Control your positioning and try to ensure that the boss's attacks do not destroy the firepits.
Recommended Builds
Azarian has high health and dangerous zoning tools. Precision is more important than raw AoE.
- Monk - Precision Strike: The Monk's ability to focus damage on a single target without wide AoE splash helps prevent accidental destruction of the Braziers.
- Ranger - Frost Shot: Cold damage is effective against Fire-aligned bosses. Chilling Azarian reduces his spin speed, giving you more time to react.
- Key Stats: Fire Resistance (75%) is absolutely mandatory. A Ruby Flask can save you if you accidentally ignite the floor.
