PoE 2 Boss Guide: Mektul, The Forgemaster Strategy & Drops

Mektul, The Forgemaster is a colossal fire giant boss encountered in The Molten Vault, a sub-area of the Vaal ruins in Act 3. As a living furnace, Mektul guards the ancient thaumaturgical forges of Aggorat. This fight is a brutal test of Fire Resistance and environmental awareness, as Mektul can manipulate the very lava that flows through his chamber.

Lore & Background

In the age of the Vaal, Mektul was not a man but a construct—a golem of obsidian and magma tasked with forging weapons for the empire's legions. He was bound to the Molten Vault, drawing power from the geothermal vents deep beneath the city.

Abandoned after the fall of the empire, Mektul has become a primal force of nature. The corruption has twisted his purpose from creation to destruction. He now views any intruder as impurities to be smelted down in the great furnace he calls home.

Core Mechanics

Mektul deals extreme Physical and Fire Damage. The arena is a circular platform surrounded by lava, with grates on the floor that periodically erupt with fire.

Phase 1: The Molten Giant

• 1. Lava arm slash
  Description: Mecktor pulled back his arm while swinging his fist upward; his arm quickly swelled into the shape of a massive axe filled with lava.
  Strategy: When you see the boss raise their arm, step back immediately to avoid the attack.
• 2. Forge Slam
  Description: Raise a huge arm and smash it hard against the ground. Generate several outward-spreading Molten Waves.
  Strategy: Roll backward or take cover in the gaps between the ripples.
• 3. Charging Lava Wave
  Description: Lava waves are approaching the player from the lava beneath the boss in a regular pattern.
  Strategy: The attack of the magma wave is regular; it is easy to dodge by careful observation.

Recommended Builds

Mektul is slow and heavily armored. Cold damage and armor penetration are key.

• Sorceress - Ice Spells: As a fire-based boss, Mektul is Weak to Cold. Chilling him slows his hammer swings, making them much easier to dodge.
• Warrior - Sunder: The innate Armor Break from Warrior skills is essential for penetrating Mektul's heavy obsidian armor.
• Key Stats: Fire Resistance (75%) is mandatory. A Ruby Flask is essential for surviving the "Floor is Lava" phase.
