PoE 2 Boss Guide: Rathbreaker Strategy & Drops

Rathbreaker is a colossal Maraketh warrior encountered in The Fissure, a hazardous sub-area of the Vastiri Desert in Act 2 of Path of Exile 2. Known to the tribes as "The Earthbreaker," he is a physical powerhouse who wields a massive, rusted Karui Chopper. This fight is a brutal test of Armor Mitigation and positioning, as Rathbreaker uses his gigantic blade to cleave the very earth beneath your feet.

Lore & Background

Rathbreaker was once a legendary executioner of the Faridun clan, tasked with dispensing judgment upon those who violated the sacred laws of the oasis. His weapon, a blade forged from desert iron, has claimed countless heads.

However, as the corruption seeped into the canyons, his judgment turned into indiscriminate slaughter. He now roams the Fissure, dragging his colossal blade through the sand, shattering the bedrock with every swing. He guards the pass not as a sentinel, but as a mad butcher.

Core Mechanics

Rathbreaker deals extreme Physical Damage. His attacks utilize the Sunder mechanic, sending shockwaves through the ground using his blade. The arena is narrow, limiting your ability to kite.

Phase 1: 

• 1. Slash
  Description: When approaching the player, the boss will swing a big sword to attack the player.
  Strategy: When you see its arm lifting, rolling to the side can avoid this situation.
• 2. Swing and chop
  Description: The boss first swung its cleaver at the player, then immediately swung it downwards at the player.
  Strategy: Once you see the boss holding a sword in both hands and raising it, immediately back away or roll to the side.

• 3. Charge
  Description: The boss charges at you, trying to collide with you.
  Strategy: Observe the boss's pre-attack animation, maintain a safe distance, sidestep to avoid or run to one side to dodge, and it will be very simple.

Recommended Builds

Rathbreaker hits hard but has slow wind-ups. Builds that can capitalize on his recovery frames excel here.

• Warrior - Sunder/Earthquake: Fight fire with fire. Use your own Sunder to attack him from range while his blade is stuck in the ground.
• Ranger - Lightning Arrow: Kiting is effective, but be careful of the narrow arena walls. Use "Escape Shot" to create distance when he charges.
• Key Stats: Armour is vital to survive a direct hit from his chopper. Stun Threshold Recovery helps prevent being combo-killed.
